All original written content and photos are ©2013 Mike Pascale. Visual content ©2013 their respective owner(s). In the middle of Comic-Con craziness yet again. Time is short, lines are long. Because I have little of the former and have to deal with the latter, I have just enough minutes to send some bullet points your way. Again there is a wealth of free panels and seminars for just about every discipline related to the creative…

All written content ©2013 Mike Pascale. Visual content ©2013 its respective owner(s). It’s been hot as balls this past week, with triple-digit temps every day (and more expected until the holiday). So this week’s blog is about the HOTTEST awards of their kind in the comics industry, the Inkwells! I mean the first and only awards for inking and inkers in the bid’ness. A Famous Artist Helps A Character Make A Pass

“Quick Comics Character Quiz: A Famous Artist Helps A Character Make A Pass” All written content (c) 2013 Mike Pascale. Visuals are copyright their respective owners. One of the best things about attending the Kubert School (especially with some so-called “old timers” as instructors) was hearing inside stories of comics history. And from what I hear, brutally at that. As in bullet to the head (quite similar to Blue Beetle earlier this century–are the editors all fans of the Sopranos?)

Comics Economics, 1963 vs. 2013: 50 Years Of Value?

All written content ©2013 Mike Pascale. Visual content ©2013 its respective owner(s).   One of the bonuses of buying old comics as opposed to the cheaper reprint tomes like Marvel’s MASTERWORKs/ESSENTIALs or DC’s ARCHIVEs/SHOWCASEs is seeing the original letters pages, coming attractions, “Bullpen Pages”, and advertisements. I’m also a sucker for the “on sale now” house ads that display the covers of other titles. Over the last year, thanks to my pals at Back To…

All written content (c) 2013 Mike Pascale. Visuals are copyright their respective owners. First, let me get the important stuff out of the way. My heartfelt condolences and sympathies to anyone affected directly or indirectly by the tragedy in the Boston area. That includes everything from losing a loved one to getting shut out of the Boston Comic con after travelling and/or waiting in line to set up. To that point, I urge you to visit the…

More R.I.P.-Bob Clarke and George Gladir. Heaven gets more talent

All written content ©2013 Mike Pascale. Visual content ©2013 their respective owner(s). The clichés keep coming. Bad announcements come in threes and comics are no exception this month so far. Two more amazing cartoonists joined Carmine Infantino: Bob Clarke and George Gladir. (Oddly, both were about the same age as Carmine–87. So thankfully they had long, productive lives and careers. We can at least take comfort in that.)
