Conan on scratch board by Eric W. Meador

11×14 scratch board by Eric W. Meador. *SOLD*

Eric keeps stretching and trying new things.  This time he’s created a very dramatic piece he’s called “Conan in the Shadows” using a scratch board.

For those who don’t know what that is, it’s a wood panel coated with white kaolin clay and then sprayed with India ink. You use a sharp tool to scratch away the black, to create the white spaces.

Wow, I haven’t seen or used that stuff since college. (And just FYI, it’s not always wood; you can buy it in thin sheets too; at least you could back then.)

Nice job, Eric! Especially like the lighting on the face.

    Best,
    Mike
