I had no idea what this was about. I love vampire stories, and the cover caught my eye.  I picked it up and as soon as I flipped it open, the artwork by Elman Brown blew me away.

All this cover told me was that it was a vampire story. That’s all I needed to know.

I’ve since learned that this four issue mini-series was actually an adaption of Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same name.  (Some say it’s more of a word for word illustrated version of the novel.)  Regardless, I was transfixed by it.  The sense of loneliness was palatable.  It was…IS the creepiest comic I’ve ever read.  It’s psychological horror at it’s finest.

Richard Matheson, vampires and art like this? Sold!
The series has been published by IDW as a single graphic novel but is currently out of print. It can still be picked up used on amazon.com though. Buy it! (click on the image and it’ll bring you right to it!)

  1. My friend has a copy of this book. It is an incredible read and the artwork is delicious (no pun intended).
